Moodiness, maps and Onions
It turns out the moody driver Treaders and I experienced on the 185 is well known for his erratic behaviour, as this thread shows. He’s definitely the worst I’ve had so far.
In other news, I have finally, definitely, absolutely this time worked out how to add maps, so that I can illustrate the routes taken. I really want to do this to give those who don’t know London some idea of where I have been on any given day, so I shall start adding them to routes soon.
In the meantime, check out these pdf maps -
These are the tfl maps I pore over to plan the routes. I have spent countless hours staring at these things to the point where they are starting to pervade my dreams.
I also came across this news today.
London 2012 organizers say the external structure of the main Olympic stadium has been completed. Construction of the outer shell, including roof sections, was finished Thursday, 14 months after work started and three years before the start of the games. The 80,000-seat stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies and track and field competition. The announcement came as the Olympic Delivery Authority published its annual report and accounts for 2008-9. London’s overall budget for venues, infrastructure and regeneration has been set at 9.325 billion pounds ($15 billion). ODA chairman John Armitt says the Olympics will be delivered within the budget despite the “external shocks” caused by the recession.
So there you go. Next time I am in the area, I shall be taking a proper look at it from as close as I can get. Now if I have one wish for the weekend, it’s for sun at Lord’s and for Onions to make the Australians cry. Please.

I stumbled across your blog following a link from Diamond Geezer. At the risk of blowing smoke up your backside, it is people like you that make this country great. You are completely bonkers, of course, but your blog is an absolute treasure. Good luck in your odyssey. There is a book in all of this.
I also got here from Diamond Geezer and have been contemplating travelling, and mapping all the bus routes out from Sutton for the OpenStreetMap project.
As well as the obvious street data, we’re also trying to build a free (as in speech, with few copyright restrictions) public transport route database from scratch. It’s currently quite sparsely mapped in London – http://www.öpnvkarte.de/?zoom=13&lat=51.50537&lon=-0.13062&layers=BT
It’d be great if we could get your help with this.
Absolutely Thomas. My email is numb at blueyonder dot co dot uk
Same as Jaz – found your blog from Diamond Geezer, really enjoyed what I found and will be coming back to read about your previous jaunts and new explorations. Good luck!
Thanks Jaz and Mark for your kind words. I appreciate it. Knowing someone is reading and enjoying it is great for the old motivation
I agree with Jaz that you are probably completely bonkers but this journey is shaping up to be compelling reading. Any idea when you will be travelling on route 157 and 154 (my old school buses)?
