Whippin’ Piccadilly

Yes, it’s another rubbish headline nicked from a song. But then you make an interesting headline out of a story about roadworks, because it would appear I should start getting used to delays and jams in the centre of town.

Westminster Council have announced plans to introduce two-way traffic to Piccadilly for the first time in 40 years, albeit only for buses, while Shaftesbury Avenue will remain one way.

They claim it will ease congestion and is one of seven projects to regenerate parts of central London in time for the 2012 Games, which is incidentally my deadline for completing this odyssey. They also plan to remove a lot of the street clutter, such as out-of-date signs. I don’t visit Piccadilly often enough to know if this is a good idea and whether it will work, but I do know it means a lot more roadworks in the next three years. Bah.

Also to add, Google maps is proving a pain in the bottom and not saving my maps as it ought to, so I’m going to have to rethink that plan.
